Black Antiquing Fluid 500ml

Our own equivalent to Liberon's Tourmaline & Haematite which has now been discontinued. Our black Antiquing Fluid works in exactly the same way as Tourmaline giving excellent results.
A cold patination treatment used to age brass, copper and bronze in minutes and to provide an antique like finish. Black also works very well on steel and cast iron. Colouration level can be controlled by dilution. Ideal for use in antique restoration or new castings and fabrications..

Directions for use

The antiquing fluid reacts with the surface of the metal creating a patina to give the impression of weathering or age. Abrasive pads, or wire wool can be used on metals to give a fine key, giving the patina a better surface to attach to. For the antiquing fluid to react with the work piece the surface has to be scrupulously clean. Even a small amount of oil or grease on the surface will give you a patchy and inconsistent finish, and we recommend you use our Antiquing Pre-Treatment, this acidic degreasing solution will quickly remove grease, oil and fingerprints from the surface of the metal.

Apply Antiquing Fluid directly on to the item using either cotton wool or a brush and watch the surface change colour in seconds. If the work piece is smaller then it can be submerged in dilute antiquing fluid, giving you a consistent colour across the metal surface. When the desired colour is achieved, immediately rinse with clean water to stop the reaction of the antiquing fluid, and dry gently with warm air or a new clean cloth or towel.

When the surface is dry the patina can be left to age longer in the open air or if you are happy with the colour, it should be sealed. There are various ways of sealing the patina, either using wax, oil or lacquer depending on the items final use. Protective oil is very effective at sealing the surface, keeping air and moisture out and giving the patina more depth and colour. On items which will be handled or will suffer from a high amount of abrasion wax or lacquer may be needed.
